From all of us, especially our “extraordinary dogs,” we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

God bless you.

The mission of EXTRAORDINARY DOGS is to heal and retrain “death row” survivors of high-kill facilities, to give them whatever they need so that they can blossom into the extraordinary beings that they are.   Our strategy and belief is that training via enrichment, resilience-building,  play therapy and emotional profiling  is important for every dog, but even more so for these “throw away” shelter dogs. We also believe that by educating owners and the general public about canine behavior we can help prevent owner surrenders and reduce unnecessary euthanasia.  We have to target this problem at the source, viz. convince and educate owners that their dogs deserve to be more than disposable property.  Read more about our work here.

EXTRAORDINARY DOGS INC. is a nonprofit organization registered as a 501(c)3 public charity in New Mexico.  Please remember that our operation and successful rescue and retraining depends on your generosity. ALL contributions go directly to the care of the resident dogs, and are tax deductible.

If you love dogs even half as much as we do and want to participate in saving their lives, here is how you can help:

  1.  Visit your local pound/animal control facility . . . in most communities, this is separate from the local humane society.  Animal control is exactly what the name implies . . . control of animal population and the usual method is euthanasia.
  2. Consider adopting from the pound if you’re looking to add a best friend.  Contrary to some beliefs, the dogs are NOT “damaged goods,” but are instead very clever, resilient and delightful.  All they need is a chance to blossom.
  3. Become a foster for a local rescue organization.
  4. Support only REPUTABLE breeders . . . those who understand genetics, breed only for the betterment of a specific breed, and who have a waiting list of committed owners BEFORE the puppies are even born.
